We originally met at Church of the Nativity in Leawood, although our regular members were from all over the Kansas City area. Meetings are now at Queen of the Holy Rosary-Wea in Bucyrus, KS near 227th and Metcalf.
We usually meet from 3 – 4:30pm on a Sunday afternoon monthly in the parish hall to make missions rosaries that are placed locally, nationally, and around the world.
All training and materials are provided at each meeting; new faces are always welcome, and our seasoned rosarymakers are happy to teach!
Rosarymaking can be done alone or in a group, while praying or talking or listening to music or watching television. It can be done on a car trip or in a waiting room. Of course, you can make a rosary as you pray a rosary, too!
Rosary Guild purchases most supplies from Our Lady’s Rosary Makers for missions rosaries, and each rosary costs 12 cents to make – the rosaries are sturdy and inexpensive. Each international shipment costs over $100 to ship, depending on the size/weight of the shipment. Missionaries around the world request rosary donations through OLRMs to help them in their work, spreading the Gospel of Christ and the devotion of the rosary, which is such a beautiful, recognizable and lasting symbol of our faith.
Rosary Guild has always been funded by donations and our occasional rosary sales at local parishes; several of our rosarymakers create beautiful and unique beaded rosaries, twine rosaries, ladder rosaries, sacrifice beads, etc. to off-set the costs for our group. We hope to remain self-sufficient as a group, not relying on money from the parish or diocese.
Some of our rosarymakers only work on rosaries at home and never attend the monthly meetings, while other rosarymakers only come to the meetings, but never make rosaries outside of those meetings. We welcome any level of help. There is no membership or commitments or dues – just a call to help as you can or desire!
So far, we have placed over 26,500 rosaries around the world and at local organizations. We also visit Scouts groups, youth groups and other church groups to teach rosarymaking. Rosary Guild provides opportunities for fulfilling service hours for those in Confirmation preparation or attending a Catholic high school. We welcome suggestions for places that would appreciate receiving our rosaries.
Locally, we have provided rosaries to the Keeler Women’s Center, Adoration chapels in area churches, Kansas City Hospice, area nursing homes, with religious Sisters, parish missions and special retreats, etc. Kansas City area priests and parishioners have taken rosaries with them to distribute on their mission trips in India, Haiti, and Guatemala.
We also send rosaries to those requesting them in the Our Lady’s Rosary Makers newsletter – mostly in countries in Africa, Central and South America, as well as India.
